We are so thankful that we had Martha to help us with the college application process for both of our daughters. As parents who did not attend college, we had no idea what applying for colleges or FAFSA entailed. We had no idea where to start or how to help our daughters. It is so much work, we would not have been able to do the whole process twice without Martha's help. Thanks to her encouragement, help, and dedication, college applications and financial aid applications went so smooth for both of our daughters. She was great during the whole process and she made sure that both of our daughters were aware of deadlines and any other important dates. Martha played a critical role in my finding out about college scholarships and opportunities. She introduced me to QuestBridge, a nonprofit that helps high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds get financial aid and admission to top U.S. colleges. With Martha’s help, I applied to QuestBridge’s College Prep Scholars Program and National College Match. Applying for the National College Match required financial information, intensive forms, introspective essays, and sticking to rigid deadlines. The support I received from Martha included reminders about deadlines, scholarships, eligibility, and workshops. Her office hosted a workday at FLC that provided space for high school seniors to work on our admissions essays and get feedback; this elevated my Common App applications and contributed to my receiving a full-ride scholarship to the University of Chicago.
Martha is persistent, organized, and knowledgeable. She helps her students stay motivated and knows the resources available to advisees of all backgrounds. I, as with so many others, am so lucky to have benefited from her expertise!
